After a long hiatus caused by a minor foot injury, I finally returned to summer spinning aimed at one of the most interesting predators that inhabit our local waterways; I am referring to the highly entertaining royal perch, a predator that, with respect to its small size, can certainly be counted among those that put up the most strenuous defense.
It is a predator with a gregarious nature, which favors multiple catches once the school is identified.
I like to chase it with a light-spinning gear practiced with a 2.40-meter rod with an effective power identified in the range of gr 3/15; to this rod I combine a size 2500/3000 wide-reel reel loaded with a braided line such as theAsso 8XPE Light Games fluo green in color with a thickness of mm 0.12 to the top of which I am going to connect an approximately one-meter piece of Asso Super Fluorocarbon 0.20 mm thick.
Thus equipped I begin a search that develops mainly in the higher layers of the water column using 7/9 cm minnows in both floating and sinking setups, ½ Oz (14 gr) spinnerbaits, silicon shad mounted on 10 gr max jigheads, and classic rotating spoons up to gr 12 with red teasers.
As mentioned, the strenuous defense of this friendly predator provides moments of pure enjoyment and, at the same time, puts all the combo members to the test; if chased in the early hours of dawn, copious and thunderous chases can be seen afloat of even good-sized specimens, with individuals sometimes exceeding one kilogram in weight.
The setting is that of the great pre-Alpine lake, in this case my beloved Lake Maggiore on the Piedmont shore, a habitat that the royal perch shares with chubs, zander and pike, all active predators as the fall season slowly but surely approaches.
Even in this particular type of spinning-light, Ace products come through for me by giving me extremely reliable performance and guaranteeing me maximum enjoyment in every situation.
Summer perch: the equipment used
Ultra-soft and extremely tough next-generation fluorocarbon thanks to innovative Pvdf and a state-of-the-art extrusion process. Very smooth and mellow surface that guarantees perfect knots and controlled elongation. Competition-specific thread, but can also be used successfully by novices thanks to the great softness that makes it easy to use. Especially suitable for terminals.
Ace 8x Light Games is an 8-ply braid composed of ultra-thin and strong high-density PE fibers that are perfectly finished. This type of fiber provides the braid with a strength, linear and at the knot, far above average. The new braiding system provides extreme strength to the multi fiber even after the most extreme abrasions. The very high abrasion resistance is combined with the remarkable softness of the surface, which is smooth and silky. The perfectly round surface guarantees incredible smoothness and no noise passing through the thread guide rings. Very strong, suitable for all fishing situations. Offered in 2 high-visibility colors. Multi-purpose, suitable for both reel and terminal.
